Vacation Tips for Busy Small Business Owners

If you’re a small business owner or “run the shop” at work, you understand the pros and cons of being your own boss. Sure, you can generally make your own schedule, but along with that freedom is the reality of being an entrepreneur: the responsibility, the accountability, and the long hours that can lead to burnout very quickly.

With all that falls squarely on your shoulders, you may feel uneasy about taking a vacation. Don’t stress. Here are tips and to-dos to help the worrisome entrepreneur take a much-needed and rejuvenating vacation.

More bosses are breaking away

According to a 2012 survey by Robert Half Management Resources – a Menlo Park, California-based senior level accounting, finance and business recruiting firm – 51 percent of chief financial officers (CFOs) said they didn’t or don’t plan to check in with the office at all while on vacation. That number is nearly double the percentage from a similar poll in 2010 (26 percent), and up significantly from a 2005 study (21 percent).

Why business owners stress

In 2007, an OPEN from American Express Small Business Monitor survey titled, “Employers Skimping on Vacations” asked business owners what concerns them most about being away from the office. The top concerns included:

The fear that an important client or customer will receive inadequate service
Missing an important new business opportunity
Staff will make a poor judgment call
Not knowing who will manage the business in their absence

While these concerns are valid, it’s important to your physical and mental health to take a break and re-energize yourself – you’ll return with renewed creativity, energy, and enthusiasm that should translate into more sales and greater enjoyment of your work.

So, start planning your vacation keeping these tips in mind:

Notify clients in advance and be sure that they have your contact information if they need to reach you. Be sure to ask if there’s anything you can handle before you leave.

Ask a trusted colleague to be in charge while you’re away.

Prepare your employees by discussing potential scenarios that may arise and how they should handle them. Clarify with your staff and colleagues what situations require your immediate attention, and what can be handled by the team at the office. If you expect to be notified of emergencies, provide a way for people to reach you quickly, such as your cell phone number.

If you’re not planning on working on your vacation, don’t send mixed signals by checking in and returning phone calls and emails. Unless it’s an emergency, relax!

When you return from vacation, take time to acknowledge the good work of the team, especially those who helped the office run smoothly in your absence. Make note of their efforts in their next performance review.

Take advantage of out-of-town business trips by adding a few days for some relaxing time.

Vacation Tips – Planning to Make the Most Out of Your Relaxation

Vacation time draws near as you want to spend time at a resort or traveling to the different places of interest. The choices are diverse and you might want to make the most out of your vacation time. The thing is–how can you do so?

Many vacations have turned out to be disasters because of improper planning. Here are some tips that you should consider before going out on a vacation.

Formulate Your Budget
Just because you’re away from home doesn’t mean you can’t budget! Sure, vacation time is where you relax from the many financial dues such as bills and other work-related issues. But that doesn’t mean you are free from payments.

It is always important to get together a budget for the vacation’s costs. You can include travel fare, hotel or resort accommodations, and other payments such as daily spending. In this way, you can really optimize the time spent on your vacation. You can really relax and enjoy your relaxation time without any worries such as financial dues.

Plan Your Vacation Route
After you’re done putting together a budget, the next step involves planning your vacation. You should consider the time it must take to get to you destination and the points of interest. This will help you organize how you spend your vacation so you don’t waste time thinking where to go next.

Planning ahead also helps you get the best reservations and other accommodations. You can everything set up as it becomes a convenience and not a hassle. With planning ahead, you can prevent any unnecessary mishaps to occur.

Prepare and Limit Your Luggage
A vacation is not always complete with your proper attire and the cameras to take pictures! You should have a checklist of things to bring so you can make sure that you don’t lose anything. Once you’ve planned your vacation, you can easily put together the amount of clothes to bring or other important things.

After preparing your luggage, learn to limit what you bring. You don’t want to be held back by too many gadgets or clothes. The possibility of losing them is increased because you have to check them more frequently. This can result in ruining your relaxing time. Always bring things that you need, don’t overdo it.

Maintain the Connection With Home
When you’re done with the necessities, it’s time to hit the resort or beach! But, always remember that even though you’re on vacation, you still have that connection to your work or any matters back at home. Make sure that you are able to carefully arrange things before you leave. Although it may be some trouble for you, it is always smart to get daily updates on the happenings back home.

Even though you’ve got everything planned, always remember that you’re on vacation. You deserve the rest, so make the most of it. But always keep these things in mind before going so you can truly make the most out of your vacation.

Beginner Vacation Tips

First, pack, but don’t overpack! Second, plan your trip ahead of time to be sure that you can maximize your time at the destination. Third, bring along family and friends to share this fun experience.

1. Pack the necessary clothing and equipment
There is a fine line between overpacking and underpacking. You want to be sure that you are taking everything that you need, while at the same time not taking everything but the kitchen sink. Consider the area where you are traveling, then select clothing accordingly. If you will be in a warm location that has low temperatures in the evening, it is a good idea to plan on different articles of clothing that can be layered on.

2. Plan your trip in advance
Taking some time to plan your activities before you leave will allow you to maximize your time in vacation destination. Take the time to read about the location in order to determine what you would like to do while you are there.

3. Bring along family and friends
Bringing family and friends with you on your vacation can help you have a good time. Be sure that you are inviting people you enjoy spending a lot of time with, because you will be spending every hour each day with these people. This can be a great time to bond with your family and friends.

Disneyland Vacation Tips – Beat the Crowds

One of the best Disneyland vacation tips we can give is how to beat the crowds at Disneyland. But first, let’s answer the question “Where is Disneyland located?”

Disneyland is located at 1313 Harbor Boulevard in Anaheim, California. Now one of two theme parks at the Disneyland Resort, Disneyland brings in visitors year-round.

So when is the best time to visit Disneyland?

There are several times of year to choose from. Ideally, visitors want nice weather and the smallest crowd possible. One of the best times of year to meet these standards is in the fall, after children have gone back to school, in between Labor Day and Columbus Day. In California, most kids are back in school by late September and the holiday crowds don’t start coming until Halloween gets closer. Other times to visit would be mid-January to mid-February, and after Easter/Spring Break to the end of May.

Keep in mind that weekends will always be busier than a weekday. If you’re planning an extended visit to the Disneyland Resort, visit the parks during the week and visit other venues on the weekend.

You can expect the weather at Disneyland to be pleasant most of the year. Rainfall is heavier during the months of January, February, and March. July through early September, Disneyland weather is going to be hot and the theme parks will be packed with people; if you’ll be visiting the parks during the summer, dress cool, make use of the water rides, and make a point of staying after dark for the nighttime shows.

No matter what, have fun on your Disneyland vacation! Tips are great, but nothing beats first-hand experience. Imagine, explore, and enjoy the magic.

Florida Beach Vacation Tips

Florida Beach

Florida is popular for its beautiful coastlines and enjoyable beach parks. If you are planning to spend your holidays on the beaches of Florida, you will need a few reminders. Here are some tips that will help you make the most out of your well-deserved vacation:

# Most parks and resorts on the beaches of Florida use colors and characters to tag their parking areas. Never forget where you parked your car. It is best to write down your parking lot section.

# Florida beaches are crowded most of the time, so try not to follow the crowds. In Florida, people go to the right and turn clockwise when moving around theme parks and resorts. You have to know what you are doing by turning left and going counter clockwise, which is what Florida residents do.

# In Florida, there are many parades, especially inside theme parks. Take advantage of this by riding the best rides while people watch the parades. This eliminates the need to line up for hours to experience a ride.

# On the beach, avoid the time of the day when the sun is at its hottest. This way, you will be able to enjoy Florida’s surf, sand and sun for days on end.

# Never swim in the water alone. While many other tourists may be swimming, too, it is difficult for the lifeguards to look after every individual. If you do swim alone, make sure that you swim only in places where a lifeguard can easily spot you.

# Since Florida beaches are very large, there will be many things to see and activities to enjoy. Planning should never be neglected. To plan your vacation in Florida, you should buy some maps that provide vacation tips. If you are already on a beach, you can use the park’s tip boards and maps to save time and make your vacation more fun-filled.

Martha’s Vineyard Vacation – Tips and Personal Experiences

A Martha’s Vineyard vacation can be a special family vacation, romantic couples vacation or a relaxing, escape vacation. The Vineyard is a fabulous island that can provide this variety of vacation styles. If you are considering visiting or booking a trip, you won’t be disappointed.

While there are three main towns on the island, Martha’s Vineyard is larger than many folks realize and many visitors do not explore all that the island has to offer. Oak Bluffs, Edgartown and Vineyard Haven are the main focus in most of the tourist destination guides and the majority of Vineyard visitors visit these towns. However, there are special attractions and qualities located in less known areas on the island.

Menemsha is located about 30 minutes west of Vineyard Haven and is a beautiful, quaint fishing village and harbor. It has managed to maintain its true character and avoid much of the commercialism one will find in Oak Bluffs, Vineyard Haven and Edgartown. The beach here faces northwest and you can see spectacular sunsets. It’s a rare spot on the East coast where one can see the sun dip into the water and reflect off its surface.

Aquinnah (formerly known as Gay Head) is the westernmost point on the island and is known for beautiful colored cliffs that drop into the water. The landscape here is truly unique and a great example of natural beauty.

Chappaquiddick may be best known for the bridge that former Senator Kennedy drove of, however there are amazing beaches and a very unique Japanese Garden to enjoy. Mytoi gardens features many Japanese plantings, serenity gardens, and a central pond with a picturesque wooden bridge and snapping turtles.

Those people who have had the luxury to travel understand that it can be costly. Those who have done so with an entire family can even cost a small fortune. When I would go on vacation, worrying about ways to manage my money seldom crossed my train of thought. After all, I’m on vacation and I want to do anything and everything. TRAVEL WITH FRIENDS:

Hotels are costly. If you want to stay at place with perfect view expect to spend more than $100 each night. Bring along the kids and you’ve already spent $2000 before you dipped your toes into the soft white sand. One option you should consider is to vacation with friends and rent a house. If you look online you can rent a 4 bedroom house in near Tampa Bay for $1500 or less. Use the pull out couch for the children and you are suddenly on vacation for half the price.

BUDGET WITH FOOD:

If you eat out for meal, your vacation will be expensive. Attempt to save money anyway you can. The easiest way I learned how to manage my money is to take a homemade lunch to the park. The whole family can eat for less than $20. Breakfast can some cereal and to make it fun for the kids by letting them pick something you would never let them have at home. Dinner can be at an all you can eat buffet or a simple restaurant.

BUDGET WITH SPENDING:

Plan every attraction you hope to visit before you leave. Some places offer coupons online like buy one get one free or kids under 12 are free. Do your best to avoid Disney Land or popular attractions. Your kids will have more fun seeing a dolphin in the ocean instead of at Sea World.

Vacations can be costly but they don’t have to be. If you create a budget, follow a plan and save every way you can on food you can create a fantastic holiday at half the cost. If you are going to a country with a lot of sun, then you should know that it is important to take an appropriate sunscreen cream for both you and your children. Many people think that if they are spending most of their time in the water, they will be protected. At the same time, people who are riding a bicycle or climbing a mountain consider themselves protected. Nothing can be further from the truth. If you are exposing your skin to the sun too much, use a sunscreen in order to be protected from the harmful UV rays.

Another problem with sitting in the sun too much is the risk of a sunstroke. If you are trying to get a tan, make sure that you use a stronger protection for your head. Additionally, if you feel a burning sensation on the skin and it becomes red, cover yourself immediately and head for the shade.

General Vacation Tips:

Make sure that you have health insurance that covers everything, either via your travel insurance or separately. Abroad medical care is very expensive and, in case something happens, you need to be sure that you or your loved ones will receive medical care. The health insurance will ensure that you will get a reimbursement for the medical care services that you paid for.

In order to avoid embarrassing situations, it is a good idea to inform yourself about the customs and traditions of the local population. This is especially true, if you are going to an exotic destination. Some of the common habits in your country are offensive for the local population of your holiday destination.
